Hello to everyone reading this,
If you haven’t noticed through my Instagram/Facebook posts or how excited I was in the leading months before I left but I’m back in Brisbane, Finally! Kinda feels like I haven’t been here for ages (well, I haven’t been here for a year and a half..but feels way longer), kinda feels like it was only yesterday.. Like, I walk through the streets and get this feeling. The feeling I only get when I’m in Brissie! – A few things have changed though, but most things are the same. Ok ok but before this turns into a love letter to Brisbane, I’ll start telling you what has happened since I arrived.
The first two weeks I stayed at my host family’s place. So they picked me up at the airport and when we were at the car I walked straight to the drivers door. You must know, I did the same when I came here first.. but since they drive here on the other side, it wasn’t a surprise I did that! Anyway I DIDN’T drive! People who know me can tell I don’t even like to drive when I’m in Germany, where I’m used to driving on the right side.. The chance to kill someone who is driving with me is too high. Not that I’m a bad driver, I just don’t trust the other drivers! Well back to the actual story:
The first couple days I was quite sleepy because of Jetlag. But I actually managed it better then last time. So I spent the days dropping off my host child at school, spending time in the city, at Southbank or at our pool with Chrissy the current Au Pair of my host family.
It was an awesome feeling strolling through the streets of Brisbane again. Gosh! How I missed it!! I showed Chrissy a few of my fav spots, had coffee in lovely cafés and hung out in Southbank.
In the evenings we cooked, had really good chats at the dinner table with my host family, played cards and I had many cuddles with Linus.
On the first weekend I met friends, among others with Darci and Ben. I met them in January 2017 in Byron Bay just a month before I left. They just had a baby girl in December! Her name is Ayva and she is definitely the cutest baby everrr!! Like I’m serious. I’m so obsessed with her! (Darci can tell haha)
Anyway, I came to their place on Saturday and we had a fun night with a lot of laughs, music and of course alcohol. One of their friends, Craig, whom is actually from England but now living and working in Sydney, came out with Darci and I the next weekend. We first went to a nice bar, kinda pub, kinda club thing. It’s made of shipping containers and everywhere are fairy lights and different floors. It was kinda expensive but still would recommend it, just because of the beautiful environment there. (Called: X RAGE, in Fortitude Valley) Later we went to my favorite club ‘’Prohibition’’. May have already talked about it in other posts but wooow, the ceiling there is sick!! Lights are hanging off and going crazy with every beat! Love it! – So we danced till like 3.30am which is actually pretty long for people in Brisbane. Normally they start going out early, like 8pm or 9pm, which is quite early for Germans ( but actually pretty clever because you get earlier to bed that night/morning and won’t be too wrecked the next day). That night was pretty cool. We had so much fun! And you know that’s exactly what I was looking forward to. Not the alcohol, or the dancing, just spending time with my favorite people, meeting new ones and having fun, celebrating life!!
So yeah, after those two beautiful weeks at my host family’s place I moved with Darci and Ben. I’m staying at Ben’s parents’ house where he, Ayva and Darci are living at the moment. Bens’ family is wonderful, and I really feel at home here!
Darci, Avya and I go out from time to time. We had this incredible raw cake at that one vegan café (have to ask Darci for the name again! Charlie Raw Squeeze), the yummiest breakfast everrr at the café of Ben’s best friend called ‘’Copper Blue’’ (would recommend the halloumi, avo, poached egg with Turkish bread), freakin good chicken wings for just 0,25AUD each (the chilli one was awesome) where we will go next week again btw because it was too good and too cheap not to got again and these are just a few good things we ate. You see we go out a lot for the food here.. Haha but we also did a few other things.
We went to the gym a couple times to burn all the calories we wanted to eat later that day, hung out a bit by the Southbank river and managed to fit in a dip in the pool at their house. A few days ago we woke up early and went hiking to Mount Ngungun. A friend of Darci's, Bailey from the USA, came with us. Afterwards, we drove to the ‘’Eumundi market’’ where we strolled around and had ice pops (I had watermelon-lime which was so good!). Later that day we drove to Noosa. There we enjoyed the sun at Main beach and had a swim in the ocean. (Have to say, I really liked it and might go there again after my stay here!) Friends, that day was awesome! I was so tired at the end but felt so good! I freakin looove being here.
Like seriously, my heart is so full of love for this country and for the people here. Promise one day I’m gonna move here!! Well, well, we’re getting back to that cheesy stuff.. sorry for that tho!
On to the rest on the trip...On Saturday we went to the ‘’Eco-expo’’ where it was all about saving the world, reusable stuff and (of course) yummy food. It was really nice to see and I bought a couple things which are actually good for the environment and me (a personal investment that will save me money long term..). And yesterday we went to a farmers market in the morning and hung out at Mainly Beach and our pool in the afternoon. In the evening we went to the driving range. I wasn't really good at the beginning but not too bad in the end. Was really fun and we enjoyed each others company! Because you know how quick the time flies. Soon it’s gonna be Sunday again and I’ll leave them to stay a bit at the beach… Weird how quick you can get used to things or people. Like I just lived a week here but I already feel like I lived here for ages. We don't have to go out to have a good time. Just driving around in the car singing along to good songs with Darci, playing ''Yellow Car'' (so actually hitting each other), cuddling with Ayva, watching Ben doing creative things for like everything, having good chats with Bens siblings or talking about Chocolate and global warming with their parents. This is gold. This is what I’m enjoying.
You see everything is at it’s best. Gonna tell you more soon
